Forums for AF SOs???

So I have been on the prowl for an online forum specifically for Air Force wives/girlfriends/fiances. As the move to Texas gets closer, I get more worried about making friends. I know my transition will be MUCH better if I find some people to connect with, especially since I'm not a wife and won't automatically have the wife community. I figure my chances of finding people stationed in Nowheresville, TX.....uh I mean Abilene, will be better on an all Air Force forum.

At the suggestion of my friend Jess, I am putting the word out here. I found two forums, but they really seem inactive.

Anyone know of any good Air Force SO forums?

Friday Fill In

Thanks to Wife of a Sailor!

1.How do you spend your deployment money, do you save, pay off bills or enjoy the extra money while it is there to buy the things you do not normally have? (from Troop Petrie)
Well, it's not "our" money AND my flyboy hasn't deployed yet. But knowing him and knowing us, most of it would go towards paying off the house he plans to buy. C hates having debt, even "normal" debt like a house or a car. My brother put about half of his "extra" money in savings and spent half on fun stuff (i.e. guns, for him haha.)

2.If you could relive one occasion or moment, what would it be? (from Currently On Land)
Probably a moment when my grandma was still alive. One of her hugs.

3.What’s the worst job you ever had and if it was so bad why did you take it? (from Faith and Deploying)
I have actually had pretty great jobs. I started lifeguarding when I was 16 and did that for 6 years, working my way up to manager. I LOVED my pool and the members and my coworkers. I worked at JC Penney in high school, which wasn't cushy but was far from bad. I guess my most boring job would have to be working in the Housing office on campus at Towson. It was miserably boring.

4.If you could play any character on TV, who would you be? (from Many Waters)
If I could play any character on tv, I think I would play Piper Halliwell from Charmed. I relate to her a lot, because the character is super responsible and controlled. She focuses on things, sometimes too much. I think I would be comfortable playing that character.

5.If you could become the world’s expert in something, what would it be? (from Army of Two)
Something worthwhile. Maybe knitting, cause you get good products out of it, and cause I HAPPEN to be really frustrated as I try to teach myself to knit haha.

Nom nom nom.....Bake-N-Blog!

Yayyy! It is time for the Bake-N-Blog!

However, I have to rack my brain about this cause I made my cupcakes about 3 weeks ago!

OK, first of all, I made cupcake #25, Sour Cream Raspberry Cupcakes with Cream Cheese frosting!

The first step for me was to go to Target and buy my supplies (except for the raspberries, got them at Superfresh). However, of COURSE I didn't check to see what I had before I went shopping, so I ended up having almost 2 full bags of powdered sugar and EIGHT sticks of butter.

Step 2. Begin making of the mess. I mean uh....prep work! I had to buy a mixer for this project, since I had been bumming one off of a friend.

Step 3. Mixing the dry ingredients together. I have noticed, with a lot of "from scratch" recipes, the main difference is you have to mix the dry stuff together instead of getting it from a box. And lucky me, I got a great set of 3 glass mixing bowls as a graduation gift.

Step 4. No pictures, but you add the wet stuff......butter, eggs, vanilla, and the sugar. You had to beat the sugar and butter together first in with the flour and all that. Then, when you hit that point of being annoyed at how dry the batter is, they let you add the eggs and vanilla haha. It is supposed to be mixed on low, but my mixer has 6 settings that are all fast.

Step 5. Add the raspberries!
Clearly, I overpurchased on the raspberries haha.

Step 6. Put the batter in the oven. I really liked this batter, because it was thick and therefore easy to spoon into the cupcake liners.

Step 7. Make the icing! I personally LOVE cream cheese icing, and it was super easy to make. Although, the recipe calls for 1/2 lb of confectioner's sugar, and in my calculations, I accidentally added 1.5 lbs of sugar.....luckily I had those two bags!

Step 8. Marvel at the mess I have managed to make.

Step 9. Showcase my amazing icing skills.

Step 10. Pick the best-iced cupcake and take a picture! (I have low standards)

They may not be pretty, but they are yummy!!! I think that I could do with fewer raspberries in the batter next time, but I would definitely make these again!

Car Woes

So, I knew that buying a new car would be a huge and great experience. And it was! I am all set to start making my payments, and even though the first one is not due til October 3, I have already made one! So yay!

Unfortunately, I have also experienced another first of car ownership...car repairs! Combined with car accidents! I got rear ended on September 1, and finally got to take my car to the dealership today! My little Dory only has 910 miles on her, and I had to leave her at the shop :(

Luckily, the damage was minor....my bumper is scratched and a bracket underneath was bent. They are going to paint it and replace the bracket and she should be all mine by Thursday!

However, in the mean time, I am driving a rental car. A Chevy Impala. Now, overall, I don't have a problem with the car. Except for it's boat like feel and how low to the ground I am. I turned around while parallel parking and couldnt see anything but my head rest. But I have to say, I am infinitely better at parallel parking a sedan than my Escape......I still can't remotely parallel park Dory.

And the final car woe.....I got a parking ticket! $22 to Baltimore County for not feeding the meter. However....I think that is $22 well spent, considering I park in Towson at the Post Office at LEAST 3 times a week and never feed the meter. And have been doing this for at least a year. And Towson moved to the parking machine things that spit out a little paper permit for you, so I would spend at least a dollar a visit because you can't put less on a credit card. So that's at LEAST $150 I WOULD have spent had I chosen to feed the meter.

Guess that means I can get 6 more parking tickets and still be in the clear :)

Day 02 – Your first love, in great detail

My first love. Where to start.

He was a good first love. Dave is 7 months older than I am, and was a school year ahead of me. We dated when I was 16 for about a year and a half. We talked all the time, we texted all the time, we saw each other all the time. It's kind of funny, considering the long distance relationship I am in now.

Dave treated me like a princess. Ultimately, we broke up because of some fundamental differences that I am not sure we would have ever seen eye to eye on. He had a tendency to be possessive and could get jealous, but it was only because he thought he loved me.

Dave was a great first love because he helped me establish my standards. I have discussed with friends why they date d-bags and why I have not.....I am 100% sure it's because my first experiences in dating were such positive ones. Dave treated me well, so it helped me solidify the belief that I should be treated well.

22. Take a yoga class

I have now gone to 3 yoga classes with my friend Dani.

I have taken all 3 from 3 separate instructors, so it has been really interesting to see how different teachers teach! I have done a headstand (against the wall lol) and all kinds of fun stretchy yoga poses!

I am not great about the "ohm" thought part of yoga, but I try! haha.

I definitely want to keep going :)

ps forgot to add.....C came with us to one! It was fun to have him along :)

9. Save enough money to put money down on a new car/buy a new car

I bought a new car!!

Meet Dory, my Ford Escape......I mean Es-Cop-Ay!

Wordless Woman Wednesday!

I am woman, hear me roar!

Always spending money! Hobbies are expensive

So, I have decided I am not content with my Canon point and shoot. I want the ability to take prettier pictures. In high school, I took several photography classes, and I am not trying to make a job out of it, but I would like to be able to play around some more, which is tough with the results of simple point and shoot cameras. My dad has an entirely manual Nikon from the 70s, which is what I used for my photography classes. It’s a lot of fun, especially developing prints and such, but not really feasible considering I don’t have a dark room haha.

So, dear blog readers, I need recommendations! I am looking at the SLR and dSLR cameras. I don’t need anything “professional”, per se, and I am not trying to spend $234098094 on this endeavor. However, ALL suggestions are helpful!

What SLR cameras do you recommend?

p.s. don’t worry, all of my drunken bar picture taking sessions will be taken with my old Canon :P

A new one......Wee Bit Wednesday! Cause you never can have too many blog posts, right?

In my blog stumbling, I came across this!

So of course, what else can I do but jump on board?!?!

{one} what’s your favorite day of the week and why?

I discussed this with a friend last night......I think Thursday, in anticipation of Fridays. Haha I couldn't just love Fridays.....I have to make it complicated.

{two} if you could have a glimpse of your future, would you choose to see it and what time would you want to see?
If I knew what was to come, how could I live in the present??

{three} if you could be any animal, which animal would you be?
I think I would be a dolphin. I like swimming. (That is the lamest answer ever.)

{four} do you have a lucky number?
I don't know that it's ever been super lucky, except when I won a million dollars on online Deal or No Deal. Booooo. But 21 is my number whether it brings me luck or not.

{five} if you could bring one famous person back from the dead, who would it be and why?
Hmmmm hmmmm. I would wait til Andy Griffith dies and then bring him back. I love Andy Griffith.

{six} fill in the blank: peanut butter and ____________.
Jelly. I know, lame again.

{seven} would you rather live by the mountains or by the beach?
Beach, for sure.

{eight} do you have any tattoos?
Nope. I would be willing, but haven't picked MY THING yet.

{nine} if you could retire tomorrow, what would you do?
Travel. As long as I was retired and rich.

{ten} what is your favorite all time movie?
Man oh man. Always a tie. The Sound of Music, Grease, Annie, and Dirty Dancing do battle for tops

Wordless Wednesday
