Oh, the places you'll go!

disclaimer:: my copy of this awesome book is currently on a moving truck to Texas, so I got the text off the internet. If any of it is wrong, I will apologize to Dr. Seuss.

Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.
You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the guy who’ll decide where to go.
You’ll look up and down streets. Look’em over with care. About some you will say, “I don’t choose to go there.” With your head full of brains and your shoes full of feet, you’re too smart to go down a not-so-good street.
And you may not find any you’ll want to go down. In that case, of course, you’ll head straight out of town. It’s opener there in the wide open air.
Out there things can happen and frequently do to people as brainy and footsy as you.
And when things start to happen, don’t worry. Don’t stew. Just go right along. You’ll start happening too.

Oh! The Places You’ll Go!
You’ll be on your way up!
You’ll be seeing great sights!
You’ll join the high fliers who soar to high heights.
You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have the speed. You’ll pass the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead. Wherever you fly, you’ll be best of the best. Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.

Except when you don’t.
Because, sometimes, you won’t.
I’m sorry to say so but, sadly, it’s true that Bang-ups and Hang-ups can happen to you.
You can get all hung up in a prickle-ly perch. And your gang will fly on. You’ll be left in a Lurch.
You’ll come down from the Lurch with an unpleasant bump. And the chances are, then, that you’ll be in a Slump.
And when you’re in a Slump, you’re not in for much fun. Un-slumping yourself is not easily done.
You will come to a place where the streets are not marked. Some windows are lighted. But mostly they’re darked. A place you could sprain both your elbow and chin! Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in? How much can you lose? How much can you win?
And if you go in, should you turn left or right…or right-and-three-quarters? Or, maybe, not quite? Or go around back and sneak in from behind? Simple it’s not, I’m afraid you will find, for a mind-maker-upper to make up his mind.
You can get so confused that you’ll start in to race down long wiggled roads at a break-necking pace and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space, headed, I fear, toward a most useless place.
The Waiting Place…for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go or a bus to come, or a plane to go or the mail to come, or the rain to go or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow or waiting around for a Yes or No or waiting for their hair to grow. Everyone is just waiting.
Waiting for the fish to bite or waiting for wind to fly a kite or waiting around for Friday night or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake or a pot to boil, or a Better Break or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants or a wig with curls, or Another Chance. Everyone is just waiting.
No! That’s not for you!
Somehow you’ll escape all that waiting and staying. You’ll find the bright places where Boom Bands are playing. With banner flip-flapping, once more you’ll ride high! Ready for anything under the sky. Ready because you’re that kind of a guy!
Oh, the places you’ll go! There is fun to be done! There are points to be scored. There are games to be won. And the magical things you can do with that ball will make you the winning-est winner of all. Fame! You’ll be famous as famous can be, with the whole wide world watching you win on TV.
Except when they don’t. Because, sometimes, they won’t.
I’m afraid that some times you’ll play lonely games too. Games you can’t win ‘cause you’ll play against you.
All Alone!
Whether you like it or not, Alone will be something you’ll be quite a lot.
And when you’re alone, there’s a very good chance you’ll meet things that scare you right out of your pants. There are some, down the road between hither and yon, that can scare you so much you won’t want to go on.
But on you will go though the weather be foul. On you will go though your enemies prowl. On you will go though the Hakken-Kraks howl. Onward up many a frightening creek, though your arms may get sore and your sneakers may leak. On and on you will hike. And I know you’ll hike far and face up to your problems whatever they are.
You’ll get mixed up, of course, as you already know. You’ll get mixed up with many strange birds as you go. So be sure when you step. Step with care and great tact and remember that Life’s a Great Balancing Act. Just never forget to be dexterous and deft. And never mix up your right foot with your left.
And will you succeed?
Yes! You will, indeed!
(98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.)
Kid, you’ll move mountains!
So…be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray or Mordecai Ale Van Allen O’Shea, you’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting.
So…get on your way!

I said the first of my hard goodbyes a little while ago, and when it comes time for my parents to leave Abilene, I know I will be very sad. But I need to keep reminding myself.......this is a new adventure, you only live once, and I CAN do this.

Fill In The Blank Friday

1. I am currently obsessed with Brothers and Sisters. I can't believe I didn't discover this show before now!
2. Today I am excited because it is my last day working at my current job! I am moving to Texas on Tuesday!

3. The age I am is 22 and the age I feel is 25. I feel a bit older than I am, because I have most of my ducks in a row, I can pay my bills, I am moving on from my first post-college job......all of these things make me feel a little bit older than 22.

4. My favorite place is home.

5. Something I have been procrastinating is getting my oil changed. The damn light dings every time I get in the car, and has for the past few weeks. I am definitely doing it this weekend, before we get on the road! I even have a free one at the Ford dealership.

6. The last thing I purchased was trash bags, contact solution, and tooth paste at Target. Of course, I ran out of toothpaste and contact solution right before I move.

7. The thing I love most about my home is heading towards a new one. I am a major homebody, and I love HOME, where I am from, but I am excited to have the chance to start a new home with my love.

All packed up and nowhere to go

This is what my living room looked like 2 nights ago. Now, it is even worse lol.

I am probably......99% packed! Except, I don't feel that way because I have piles of boxes and STUFF everywhere! I moved everything I want in the moving truck to the living room and everything I plan to take in the car to my bedroom. The living room is getting overrun!

Luckily, I have awesome friends.....Dani and Shannon came over on Tuesday night and packed up my kitchen and bathroom! They also helped me think through things, so I feel a lot better about my state of packing haha.

We pack up the ABF Upack tomorrow (after my last day at work!)! Then, I have the weekend with just the stuff going in my car (some clothes, important papers, tv, computer), and then come Tuesday morning, we are headed west in Dory the Es-Cop-Ay! My bed will be packed up tomorrow too, so while I still have to clean my apartmen, I will be calling my childhood bedroom home for a couple days. It seems fitting to me to spend my last nights as a Marylander in the place where I feel most at home :)

I am sure I will have more crazy move posts for you before we get on the road!

101 in 1001- Checking off some big things!

I decided to check on my 101 list today, cause I knew I should be checking off some big ticket items soon!

1. Read 100 books (30/100) I am up to 30! I am 6 books into my goal of reading 50 books in 2011, and 30 into my goal of reading 100 in 1001 days. I am a little behind on my 2011 goal, since to accomplish that I should be reading a book a week. However, sometimes I power through books, and I am sure if I get into another series, that will knock out a lot (I read all 10 Sookie Stackhouse books in probably 2 weeks last year).

5. Finish the slip cover for my chair. Almost done!!! It WILL be done by Friday, when we load that beast of a chair into the moving truck lol. Pictures to follow!

11. Live in the same place as C. I am in complete shock that this one is finally happening lol. I keep saying to C "Did you ever think we would get here?" and he says "Of course, otherwise I wouldn't have dated you long distance for 3 years!" lol. But it is just so surreal, it always felt so far in the future. In a week, I will be on the road!

38. Do something that scares me. Moving fulfills this 101. I am nervous! This is a HUGE deal for me.

63. See 5 new states. (1/5) After our road trip west, I will have added 2 new states-- Kansas and Oklahoma! Unfortunately, every other state we pass through I have been to. But that's ok, I still have time to tick 2 more off my list before 1001 days are over!

85. Make my bed every day for one week (A lot/7) I am very excited!! I have been making my bed regularly! I feels so nice at the end of the night to get into a made bed lol. I don't put all the pillows on every day, but the sheets and blankets all get pulled up and straightened. I never thought I would LIKE having a made bed :P

Not sure why I am buying into vision insurance....

So I have had vision insurance at my job since I got promoted to my position in December 2009. And in just one year, I paid in over $100 for my vision insurance.

Now, I am ready to get a new pair of glasses and contacts before I leave Maryland/my current job. I haven't gotten new contacts since I have been here (somehow I stretched my year supply much longer lol), and last time I got glasses, I was still on my parent's insurance.

I have basically determined, vision insurance is all but worthless. I have had to search high and low for somewhere to GET my glasses that is covered by VSP, and then when I read the fine print today, I realized I could only get Glasses OR Contacts in a calendar year.

Umm, hello.....just cause I wear contacts doesn't mean I wear them 24 hours a day! I still need to be able to see, enter glasses!

So I guess for now, I will get the glasses with my current vision insurance, and then when my new insurance kicks in with my new job, then I can get the contacts.

.....I will be interested to see how this all turns out lol.

A bit of nerves

Everyone keeps telling me I wouldn't be human if I wasn't nervous to make as big a move as I am about to make. But really, I haven't been that nervous. I have been excited, anticipatory, ready.

But now the nerves are starting to set in. In less than a week, I have to pack up all my possessions in a truck and send them to Texas. In 9 days, I am hopping in my car and driving the rest of my possessions, and myself, to Texas. I am leaving my home, the place I have lived for the last 22 years, 9 months, 4 weeks, and 2 days.

I am most scared to leave my mom. I never considered myself a mama's girl, but really, I am dependent on my parents for support. I love them, I enjoy spending time with them. I have never lived more than 2 hours away from them.

It is time for me to a big girl. So many people do this, I need to put my big girl panties on and be strong!

Plus, I get to be with my handsome mannnn :)

It is a beautiful Friday afternoon in Baltimore! I am going to go home, open my windows, and start packing!

I live for the change of seasons. I stop enjoying a season once I have been in it too long, so the fact that spring is coming so quickly is making me happy! Feeling the warm air is my favorite feeling :)

I know though, by the end of a long summer in Texas, feeling the crisp breeze hit me in the Fall will be a welcome feeling too :)

Happy Friday, lovelies!

I am RIDICULOUSLY excited to debut my brand new blog design, courtesy of Brea at Utterly Chaotic Designs! She was great to work with, incorporating my wants but also using her own design skills to make a GREAT new blog :)

Lost My Motivation....

I had the moving motivation! On Friday, I started packing up boxes of DVDs and books. On Friday night, while my mom and I sewed, I had my dad take apart my bookshelf. Yesterday, again as my mom and I sewed, my dad packed up the kitchen, spackled all the holes in the wall, and took down my curtains.

Ok maybe I never actually had packing motivation. But I directed well!

Now, my mom and I  have a day off from sewing the monstrosity that is my chair slip cover, and I am feeling completely unmotivated to do ANYTHING. I am watching Brothers and Sisters while I cough up a whole bunch of phlegm every few minutes (yucky cold) and look around my train wreck of an apartment.

So hopefully the motivation comes back soon, because two weeks from TODAY, I am packing up a moving truck!

Exciting News (Not a tease this time!)

Wellllllll, now that all the necessary people have been told, I can announce this on my blog.

I am VERY excited to say that I am moving to Texas in 3 weeks to finally be with my lovey! I got a job offer on Wednesday, submitted it that night, and put in my resignation today :)

So let the adventure begin! The job offer was a great one, which makes this move even more exciting, and my boy will be back in the state by the time I get there! My parents and I are road tripping out starting March 1, and I will start my new job on March 7.

I am nervous, I am excited, I am scared, and I am as ready as I'll ever be. I am never going to be ready to leave Home, this place has been my home for 23 years, most of the people I know and love are here, and all my roots are here. But I am so excited to start a new life WITH my flyboy, instead of apart. It is going to be a great adventure :)

Sooo.....any cross country moving advice for me??

Just hanging around....

....hopefully I will have some exciting news to post soon, but for right now, it's top secret :) Keep an eye out, though!

In the meantime, I have been a busy little bee. Shannon and I joined the gym last week, had a personal trainer session on Thursday, ran with my dad on Saturday, and did a yoga class last night! I am enjoying the variety, so I think on Thursday, I will do some weight machines and then some cardio. Hopefully Shan and I will hit the yoga class again, cause I am definitely feeling the stretch today!

My mom and I have also been sewing like crazy people. I got this enormous chair and a half (with ottoman) last year from someone my mom knew. It is denim upholstery, which I was not a fan of, in addition to the upholstery being pretty worn out. But the chair was a total is HUGE, first of all (two people can sit comfortably on it), it has a single pull-out bed (hello, another great thing!), and it's got a huge ottoman that has a lid that lifts off and offers storage space! SO basically, this chair is the best.

So last year, probably November 2009 (!!!!), my mom and I found a pattern, bought the fabric, and made big plans. We also bought curtain material, and finished the curtains probably a year ago. But the chair has sat, untouched. We first had to MAKE the pattern (since it is such a weird size), which is a feat in itself. Then we had to do all the cutting, and make welting (that piece of cord that you see run around the edges of a lot of furniture).

So here we are, FINALLY sewing the beast together. It is a big pain. Pictures will follow.

Happy Hump Day!

The flyboy is off to the woods for a few days for SERE, and needless to say, I miss him! In the 3+ years we have been together, we have never been unable to talk! We have had times when it was tough to talk, like when he was in different busy stages of training, but we always had the option. I don't like not having the option! Miss himmm :) But luckily he should be back on his birthday!

In the meantime, I got a package delivered to my parents house and of course had to rush right over to see what it was! And my amazing flyboy had thought ahead and ordered a Valentine's Day present for me, knowing he would be busy with SERE.

I am sure when he gets back (before V-Day) and realizes I opened it, I will get yelled out. Ooops! I couldn't resist!

So, please meet my beautiful new Vera Bradley bag that I have been SALIVATING over least a year.

The Vera weekender makes the PERFECT overnight can unclip the long strap, or leave it on if you need it. I am ridiculously excited to use this baaaag! Thanks babe!

I am also jumping on board with this....

I am excited to join and meet some new people!

Friday Fill-in!

Thank you, Wife of a Sailor!
1. Since most of the country has had nasty weather, what has your weather been like this week?
Our weather has been nasty too, but not as nasty as some others. It's been icy, and melty gross.

2. What is/are your best money saving tip(s)?
Direct deposit! It has been the best way for me to save money, forcefully. I kind of forget how much money I actually make since I don't see some of it!

3. What was your favorite vehicle you’ve ever owned??
I just couldn't decide :) I love my new baby, Dory. She is a beauty. But my first love, Ruby, can never be completely replaced!
The beautiful Dory!

My first love, Ruby

4. What is a question you’d like to see asked in a future fill-in?
Hmmm......What is your must have gadget?

5. Fill in the blank: You might be a MilSpouse if….
You might be a MilSpouse if you spend more time away from your guy than with him.

First Day Back in the Gym === Pathetic!

So, my best friend Shannon and I joined the gym together last night. We figured a couple night of the week (like 2) we could work out together/go to a class, and a couple nights we can work out separately. I am going for 3-4 workouts a week.

Today, we got to have a free session with a trainer, which was.....interesting. He was super understanding of our complete laziness. I kept having to stop, and he would say "You ok?" and I said "I am so lazy" and he would laugh at me. It's not that I am too lazy to perform the's that I am so tired and annoyed that my laziness has gotten me to this point.

But I am optimistic! I am hopeful that we will reach our goals :)

Marley Lilly!

The beautiful RLB from A Belle In Bows is hosting a Marley Lilly giveaway! I'll admit, this blog is partially about my shameless attempt to win an amazing scarf from Marley Lilly. However, I am so into the scarves that I am thinking it is pretty likely I will be buying a monogrammed scarf anyway!

I am also loving all the other engraved items!

These rings (which I have been thinking about buying lately) are REALLY catching my eye!

I also think the drink koozies are adorable as a gift!

I am now officially obsessed with Marley Lilly, purchases will definitely be made there in my future. I will definitely be searching the site for the next gift giving occasion I have!

missing my flyboy :) I say things like this all the time, and he gives me that look lol
