150...

.....days since I saw/kissed/hugged my favorite guy.

I am counting the seconds until we can recreate this feeling.

Meet the Bridesmaids::: Kathleen!

Meet Kathleen!

We may or may not have been pretty drunk in the above picture :)

Kath and I met as fetuses, I think, but we became friends in the 7th grade. My dad grew up with her mom and aunt, so our families have known each other forever. When my brother dated her sister in high school, we were pushed back together and became friends.

Some of my favorite memories with Kathy took place in Ocean City. Her family owns a condo at the beach, so when we were younger, we spent a lot of time together in Ocean City. I feel like I did a lot of my growing up with Kathy, hanging out on the beach or at the boardwalk, or feeling super cool because we spent New Year's Eve with our older sibs and all their friends. Her family always made me feel like part of their family.

The other favorite memories took place on Christmas Eve. Kathy's Aunt Barbara has held a Christmas Eve party for as long as I can remember, but when I was little, my family usually stayed home and spent time with my Grandma. However, when Colin and Missy started dating and Kathy and I became friends, we started attending. I have sadly missed the last two since I moved to Texas, and the holidays absolutely don't feel the same. When we were teenagers, Kathy and I always retreated to her cousins bedroom halfway through the night and watched tv and gossiped and acted like we didn't spend tons of our free time together. To this day, I think we both feel a little weird if Christmas Eve passes and we aren't together.

Christmas Eve 2001....our most fashionable age :) I am wearing velvet and she has a furry coller

Kathy and her family have been there for me through thick and thin. When my Grandma died in 2002, the whole family trekked from Baltimore to the Eastern Shore of MD, bringing some of our closest friends along with them. They stayed by our sides throughout the whole rough ordeal, and after the funeral, they took Colin and me to Ocean City with them to try and take our minds off of things. It has been almost 11 years, and I still don't know how to thank them for everything they have done for me.

I was lucky enough to be a bridesmaid in Kathy's wedding in December 2011, and I am so excited to have her standing on the altar with me when I say I do!

the happy couple! Kath looked amazing :)

run run run......or walk walk walk

just walking along, minding my business

Well.....it might be sticking this time.

I am finished week 3 of working out every day!

I am about to jump over to the 10k running plan. I have been doing Couch to 5k, but I am at a point where I can just jump over to the 10k plan without much change. Ideally, in 7 weeks I will be able to run a 10k! After that, onward to a half marathon!

Piper and I took a 4 mile walk the other day.....it took an hour, but we kept a good pace. Unfortunately (or fortunately), it is already 80 degrees here in good ol' Texas, and we were both sweating it up by the end of mile 1.

I feel great and I am happy to increase my distance, even if I am walking, but I think I now know Piper's limit....

about 3 minutes after we walked into the house......those 3 minutes were spent lapping up water, and then she immediately knocked out on the sofa.

Gotta say, I'm pretty proud of myself for sticking with it. I haven't seen ANY movement on the scale, and have in fact gained a pound or two, but people have told me (unprovoked) that they can see the weight loss, so I am hoping they are right. Next step is to REALLY reign in my eating. I log on myfitnesspal, but I allow myself to go over my calories way too much. So now that I have made a habit out of working out, it's time to make a habit out of eating right.

life on hold?

Sometimes, it feels like life is on hold right now.

I am doing a lot of exciting things. I am starting a new job next week. I am planning our wedding. I am raising a puppy. I am working out and trying to reach new goals.

But I am doing all of it without my best friend.

So even though I keep living my life, and life isn't actually on hold, it feels like I am just killing time until my love comes home and we can do things together.

And despite this deployment being suck-tastic (6+ months is really entirely too long), I have just been reminded the whole time how in love I am with the man I am going to marry. So I will put that tally in the positives column.

Thanks for listening to my whine :)

and don't forget, I live on comments :P So if you can relate to my post or otherwise have something to say, leave me some love!

Meet the Maid of Honor::: Shannon!

I feel slightly silly writing this post, considering I have posted about Shannon numerous times in my blog. Her birthday, her engagement, her wedding, etc. What can I say.....she's my best friend :) Great blog fodder!

Shan and I met when we were freshman in high school, in the fall of 2002. (wow, I can't believe that was over 10 years ago). I was super nervous about starting a new school and making new friends, and even though we had pretty much every single class together, Shannon claims I was still a little standoffish :) Really, I was just worried she wouldn't want to be my friend lol.

We have a lot in common, which led us to be freakishly linked together. Throughout high school, we did a lot of the same things. We played on a rec softball team together, which led to my dad and Shannon getting pretty close as well. On a regular basis during our senior year, my dad or my mom (or both) would take us out to dinner. And by regular basis, I mean 3-4 times a week :)

this is our sexy sexy pose, obviously.

When we we both went off to college, we committed to talking every day----and we did. We talked on the phone every single day our entire freshman year. I was able to surprise Shan with a visit to Lehigh that year too, which was so much fun.

In the fall of our freshman year of college, I introduced Shannon to another group of my friends---which is when she met her now husband, Eric. They got together as a couple several years later, and while that pairing was initially super weird to me, I couldn't be happier now that two of my favorite people are happily married to each other.

I can count on Shannon to tell it like it is. We agree on probably 85% of things, so most of our conversations include stroking each other's egos by saying "I totally agree! You are so right!" But when we don't agree on something, I know Shannon isn't going to placate me or try to make me feel good--- she is going to tell me what she really thinks, cause she is my best friend and a girl needs that :)

Shannon is seriously a member of my family. My brother and I consider her a sister, and my parents consider her another daughter. I can't imagine our big day without Shannon standing next to me.

(coincidentally, Eric is also a groomsman! How convenient!)

isn't she beautiful?

Link up!

Link up time! I haven't done a link up in so long, and I have been neglecting my poor blog, so it's time to give my blog and the blogosphere a little love :) I heard about this linkup through my friend Max, so scope out her blog too!
Ok, time to share some facts.
-I was born 2 days late. My brother was 2 days early. This has pretty much followed us through life. As an adult, I'm much better. As a kid, my mom and my brother would be standing at the bottom of the steps, ready to walk out the door for school, and I would be trying to pull on a shoe while brushing my hair and my teeth simultaneously. Or I'd still be in bed, pretending to get ready for school while trying to sleep for another 7 seconds.

- I can sew. I am actually pretty decent. I follow patterns and know what the marks and words on a pattern mean. However, I am also extraordinarily lazy. I really wish I had a sewing room, because a lot of what deters me from sewing is having to set the sewing machine up on the dining room table and having little shnipples of fabric everywhere, or finding pins on my floor 4 months later.

- I am slowly training up to a half marathon. I have talked about it a lot, but haven't followed through. I have a follow through problem with a lot of things I talk about doing. Just look at all the "diets" I have posted about once, and then never again. But something clicked with me this new year, and I am into my 3rd week of working out every day, in some capacity. So I am putting half marathon back on my list.

- I seriously want to DNA test my dog. They sell the tests on Amazon, and you just swab the dog's cheek and send it back, and they tell you what breeds she has in her. I am so curious, because she has a lot of features and traits of a lab, but she is too small to be all lab, and we know she is mixed with something. So I am super curious and actually want to spend the money on a doggy DNA test.

- I am a slob. Ok, not a total slob. Actual messes get cleaned up. Otherwise, I am totally content with things being messy. Piper has shredded several toys in our backyard, making it look like a trash pit, and it doesn't phase me in the least. She shreds toys inside the house, and I leave the shredded pieces for.......a while. Usually until someone is coming over to the house and I frantically clean the whole place.

- I am a super hot sleeper. This is on my mind, cause usually I wear minimal clothing to bed and can only sleep with light covers. Last night, I was freeeeezing when I went to bed, so I wore more clothes than usual and put a heavy blanket on top of my usually too heavy comforter.....fully expecting to wake up in the middle of the night in a sweat. Instead, I woke up in the morning, snug as a bug. Typically, though, anyone who shares sleeping space with me tries to stay as far away as possible, because I act as a space heater.

-I just realized that the reason I was so cold is because the heat in my house was set at 65*. Whoops.

- I live for crappy tv.

- I am getting married in September! The love of my life is currently deployed to Afghanistan, so I am anxiously awaiting his return so I can really get excited about our wedding :)
I guess this is an ok list :) I was trying to think of anything interesting about me, and fell short. But hopefully this is a little something fun for anyone reading :)
don't forget.....I live for comments :) SO leave me some love!

i heart my crockpot

I try to cook things in my crockpot as often as possible. I love that I can turn it on, leave the room, leave the house, go to sleep, do whatever I want, and when I come back it will be just fine.

My crockpot, while not as fancy as some newer models, does have a built in timer. So I can set it on low heat for 8 or 10 hours, or high heat for 4 or 6 hours. It automatically goes to "warm" after that time, so even if I leave it in there for 11 hours when it was set for 10, it is just staying warm and delicious.

My favorite thing about making food in the crockpot is when I come home and my entire house smells delicious. I just live for that.

So, without further ado, I give you my latest crockpot concoction! I got this recipe SOMEWHERE initially, but now I couldn't tell you where. I apologize to whoever created it :)

It's easy. Take chicken breast and a jar of salsa and dump them in the crockpot. Turn on crockpot. Cook.

Seriously though.

Ingredients:
1-2 jars of your favorite salsa. I use mild generic salsa, but that's cause my taste buds are wimpy. I say 1-2 jars because I think the original recipe said 2 jars (32 oz), but I just did it with one jar and a little extra taco sauce, and it worked perfectly. So really, it is whatever you want. I didn't have any extra juice leftover when mine was done this time, whereas before I have had extra juice.

4 chicken breasts-ish. I used 6 this time, with only one jar of salsa, and like I said, it was just fine.

I cooked mine on high for 6 hours. It was probably done after 4 or 5, but I like to overcook everything in the  crockpot :)

It's falling apart delicious, so I usually shred mine up a bit and use it for sandwiches. I also eat it all on its own. I also eat cold pieces out of the container when I'm feeling hungry. It is delicious cold, as well as heated up. It is delicious with a piece of cheese on top on a sandwich. It is delicious in all ways.

I assumed it was too easy to be delicious, but I was wrong. If you assume that, you would be wrong too :)

Wedding Fun: Meet the Bridesmaids

I need to start posting more, and the best way for me to get into posting is to have things planned out to post about :)

So allow me to introduce you to my bridesmaids! I will do a generic intro here, and then write a post about each one over the next......however long I feel like.

Oh hey friends!

Hello, blog world! Forgive me again for my absence. Life has been busy in some ways and super boring in other ways.

First of all, my best friend got married last week! Shannon and Eric tied the knot :) The wedding was beautiful, and I admit I teared up during the vows.....it's just so cool to see two people that I love so much join together forever!

A few pics for your viewing pleasure!

last few minutes together as singles!

I missed my boy a LOT, but it was amazing to be with friends and family, some of my favorite people in the world. It is awesome to be surrounded by the people I love, and yet also a huge huge reminder that my favorite guy is missing. But celebrating Shannon and Eric was awesome :)

I also got some of my own wedding stuff done while I was home! I bought my wedding dress!! I am super excited about it! I also picked a photographer, and the Save the Dates are sitting on my kitchen table waiting to go out! Oh and bridesmaid dresses were picked too! So it feels good to make progress.

I also have a renewed determination to improve my health. Not sure what clicked with me, but with the start of the year I decided I really need to make some changes in regard to my body and my health. I started off with just trying to track my calories honestly on myfitnesspal.com (go be my friend!) and now I'm incorporating some workouts. My goal is to do SOMETHING every day, even if it ends up being a long walk with Piper. 2 days down!

I think that I could grow to love working out if I can just get in a habit.....and now is the time. The wedding is coming, and C is gone. This is the perfect thing to distract me from missing him. I am trying to keep some variety in my workouts, to keep interested. Right now, I am rotating through P90X workouts, Tone It Up Beach Babe video workouts, and running.

So that's my current life update! We are 120+ days down in this deployment, and it's all downhill from here :)
